The other day, my three year old wanted yogurt. When my kids ask for things they get it first, then they ask. I don’t know if they feel that by doing so, it makes it harder for me to say NO or what? So anyways, he got the big canister of yogurt, brought it to me and ask, in his sweet little voice that I love, “Momma can I have some Yogurt?”
“Not right now babe,” I replied, “go put it up”. He goes to put the yogurt up, without winning. He sounds like the best behaved son alive, right? Well let me go on… As he carries it to the refrigerator, he does so with ONE hand, ABOVE his head.
“Don’t hold it above your head!” I yelled. “Don’t hold it above your head!” Well he did not listen the first time I warned him, or the second time. So he dropped it on the floor, in the kitchen. (Need I remind you it was a big canister; it was also band new, and was still sealed before it hit the floor.) He was speechless and I was fierce.
“Look what you did!” Me choosing to react like the ‘old me’ hatefully yelling, instead of being loving and patient, like God has shown me to be. “Go sit in your daddy’s chair”. He started crying because I yelled and he already felt bad for the mess he made. Before I go to clean up the mess, it went through my head how I do the same thing as an adult! So I go sit next to him.
“Let’s talk; did you know that mommy makes messes to? Sometimes, God tells me to do something or to stop doing something and I disobey Him, which leads to a big mess for God to clean up and fix.” Then I tickle him to make him laugh. “Mommy loves you.”
So to the point….
The big mess ended up being a blessing and an eye opener to me and my walk with God.
Blessing 1. I realized God is patient and we are to be patient, even when crisis come up. Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
Blessing 2. Made me realize I need to Obey and listen to Gods Voice when he speaks to me, so I do not Make a mess for him to clean up or fix. By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: (Romans 1:5) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, we ought to obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29)
Blessing 3. Made Me thankful I have a forgiving God.. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. (Matthew 18:26-27)
